It starts with one decision.
What in the world is a choice point? Happy you asked!
”Choice point” is a term derived from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), founded by Steven Hayes in the 1980s. ACT founders describe this concept as a moment in time where you are choosing a behavior that moves you towards your core values or moves you further away from them. At Choice Points Counseling, LLC, we believe that people seeking therapy have arrived at a fork in the road of their life- a choice point. Most of our clients have been working for months, years, and maybe even decades to kick their anxiety and anger to the curb. Seeking therapy is a courageous act and we do not take that lightly.
Many times have we have heard clients say they are so used to “just powering through” or “white knuckling their life.” We don’t want you to have to feel that way any longer. Your choice point is now, right when you are acknowledging you may need our help. Seeking a therapist can feel so daunting and like “just one more thing,” but here you are! We applaud you for taking the first step to achieving a happier you.
